What is your first memory to music?
I guess that would be my grandfather playing the piano, with my mother, when I was 2 or 3.
What is your favorite piece of equipment you use in the studio or while DJing?
I like my Sequential Circuits 6 to produce lead synths, my Juno 106 for pads and my Nord2 Rack for almost everything, even drums.
What is your current top 5? (title / artist / label)
1 > Martin Eyerer & Toni Rios - Duende (Kling Klong)
2 > Der Dritte Raum - Flummi (Jeff Samuel rmx) (Resopal)
3 > Martin Landsky - 1000 miles (Poker Flat)
4 > Jurgen Paape - Take That (Kompakt)
5 > Gui Boratto - Chasing the Path (Unreleased)
Sex, Drugs or Rock 'n Roll?
Sex, always, drugs, usually. Rock 'n Roll is the spirit for everything. Rock and Roll has always been one of my major inspirations. Rock 'n Roll is a way of feeling, a way of life. If you dont get it as a musician, then you should stop wasting your time, and just stop listening to music. Thats my opinion.
What do you do to relax? Any hobby's besides music?
The country city of Ibiuna, one hour away from São Paulo, with my wife, my little daughter and some Boleros playing when we're in the pool.
Do you think Dance Music is able to lie?
Well, I prefer to believe that music registers a certain moment, a feeling of the artist. If they can lie? Sure, but certainly this is not the right path. Unless you are representing the Dark Side then I guess thats cool you know. It often happens alot in Minimalism. The sound decieves the people but the artist does not. I think that whole philosophical side of Minimalism is amazing, I think in that situation it's very cool. Its very rare that you experience such detail in any other genre, conceptually and production wise.
What is the last book you have read and what did you think of it?
My last book was '100 Days Between Sky And Sea', by Amyr Klink, the Brazilian sailor who has crossed the Atlantic by only using a small boat and his arms.
Are all your friends involved in Dance Music?
No, some of them are actually businessmen, others are lawyers, and some of them are doing something completely different.
What would you do with a million ping pong balls?
I would put them all in an acrylic big box to record a video-clip.
What can we expect of you in the near future?
Well, I'll continue developing my own sound, my own music, and I hope people will like it. My new 2009 artist album is being released as we speak. Gui Boratto - "Take My Breath Away" is being released on Kompakt.
I so dig the happy minimilism sound that this guy makes. It is amazing and so uplifting in a weired and jerky minimilist way. Here are a few of my favourites: Terminal, Mr Decay and Beautiful Life and Tipologia.
Dude
I fcuking love this musical genius so much! Gui Boratto is amazing, he is like a fusion between Booka Shade and a down tempo version of Gareth Emery (from an alternate universe of course).
